Unfortunately, you can currently only add friends and chat with them if you set your profile to public. I have connected with someone, we appear in each other's friends section = we are connected. With the profile set to private, however, we can no longer exchange information. This does not fit with the message and certainly not with what the intended option is.

    Thanks for flagging this. It sounds like private profiles currently disable friend chat even when both users are connected, which contradicts the expected behavior. We’ll investigate whether this is a permission bug or an intentional constraint.

    Could you share a screenshot of what you see when trying to chat with a friend while your profile is private (e.g., error message, disabled input, or missing thread)?

      Hello Ryan,
      this is displayed when a message is sent.
      Both profiles are set back to private after accepting the friend request.

        Thanks for the screenshot—this helps a lot. If you’re connected, chat shouldn’t be limited by private profiles; we’re working on a fix.
